Natural Renewal: Harnessing the Private Sector for Nature Recovery

Nature has long been seen as a secondary issue in British politics - disconnected from the ‘core’ issues of the economy, health, housing, jobs, and education. However, increasingly economic and financial decision-makers are recognising that a thriving natural environment is itself the bedrock for prosperous and resilient societies, economies, and financial systems.

Nature degradation is a global phenomenon, but the UK stands as one of the most nature-depleted countries on earth and the government’s own nature watchdog warns that we are far off track from meeting our environmental targets. Nature degradation brings with it economic and financial risk - yet preserving and restoring it provides opportunity for government, business and finance.

This briefing sets out how Labour can unlock private investment in nature to support its mission of renewal and security.
